Understanding the full cost of a UK application

Separate government charges, professional fees and optional services before setting your budget.

Government charges are only one part

Application charges vary by route, length of permission and where you apply. A family application may involve a separate charge for each person. The immigration health surcharge can also apply, while some categories have different treatment. Use the official fee table and route guidance close to the date of submission. Old screenshots and historic blog posts are not a reliable basis for payment.

Ask what a professional quote covers

A written quote should identify the work included, whether VAT applies, any exclusions and when further work would require a new agreement. Ask whether the quote includes dependants, document review, correspondence after submission and any response to a refusal. Do not assume a consultation fee is credited against later work unless that is expressly agreed. Immigration Advice LTD has not published a verified fee schedule on this site; request a written quote.

Budget for practical extras

Translation, qualification verification, language tests and optional appointment or priority services may involve separate costs. Faster processing is not a guarantee of approval or a fixed completion date. Some applicants may be eligible for a fee waiver in specified circumstances; check that before paying if affordability is an issue. Keep a breakdown of charges and payment receipts for every family member.

Turn information into a practical next step

Write down the point you need to resolve, the route you are considering and any date that affects your next action. Keep this summary separate from your full document file. A short initial enquiry can establish what support is appropriate before you share more detailed records.

For individual circumstances, confirm the scope and any fee before relying on professional advice. Prepare a consultation enquiry or browse the related routes below.
